The ATR 42 (Avions de Transport Regional) is a twin-turboprop, short-haul regional airliner built in France by ATR. The name "42" comes from the aircraft's seating, which varies from 40 to 50. The Canadair Regional Jet - or CRJ - is designed to offer the high speed advantages of much larger jets. The original CRJ-100 series was augmented by the 200 series (with more efficient engines) in 1995. The long range 200LR Series has a greater fuel capacity and the extended range. Max cruising speed is 865 km/h with the seating capacity 50 passengers.

Launched in September 1979, the Embraer EMB120 "Brasilia" was designed to economically serve small communities, where mainline service was unavailable. Embraer has modified the Brasilia periodically since its introduction, introducing such improvements as more powerful Pratt & Whitney PW118A turboprop engines and a passive control system for noise and vibration. EMB120's max cruising speed is 555km/h. Standard main cabin seating is for 30 passengers.

Fokker a anunţat dezvoltarea avionului Fokker 100 concomitent cu modelul Fokker 50 în noiembrie 1983. 283 de avioane au fost comercializate până la începutul anului 1997, când producerea lor a fost oprită. Fokker 50 is a two engine turboprop driven aircraft, which can carry up to 56 passengers. Its crew consists of two pilots and two cabin attendants. The aircraft has been designed and manufactured by Fokker Aircraft B.V. the Netherlands – a company with 35 years experience in regional aircraft manufacturing. Today there are more than 200 aircraft of this type flying in different parts of the world. Along with excellent en-route and runaway performance, Fokker 50 has low exterior noise and low emission levels, which make it a welcome neighbour, particulary in populated areas.

Tupolev's Tu-154 tri-jet remains the standard medium range airliner on domestic flights in Russia and other states of the former Soviet Union and to a lesser extent in eastern Europe and Iran. The Tu-154 first flew on October 4 1968. Current production is of the Tu-154M, which first flew in 1982. The major change introduced on the M was the far more economical, quieter and reliable.
