The ATR 42 (Avions de Transport Regional) is a twin-turboprop, short-haul regional airliner built in France by ATR. The name "42" comes from the aircraft's seating, which varies from 40 to 50. Boeing's Next Generation 737-800 is the largest member of the strong selling 737 family. It was launched on September 5, 1994.Typical two class seating for 162 with 12 first class passengers at four abreast and 91cm pitch and 150 economy class at six abreast and 81cm pitch. Standard range with 162 passengers is 5445 km. Typical cruising speed is 960 km/h.

Canadair Jet 200LR

Bombardier's Canadair Regional Jet pioneered the new 50 seat jet class, and has since become a runaway sales success. The Canadair Regional Jet - or CRJ - is designed to offer the high speed advantages of much larger jets. The original CRJ-100 series was augmented by the 200 series (with more efficient engines) in 1995. The long range 200LR Series has a greater fuel capacity and the extended range. Max cruising speed is 865 km/h with the seating capacity 50 passengers.

Embraer EMB120 Brasilia

Launched in September 1979, the Embraer EMB120 "Brasilia" was designed to economically serve small communities, where mainline service was unavailable. Embraer has modified the Brasilia periodically since its introduction, introducing such improvements as more powerful Pratt & Whitney PW118A turboprop engines and a passive control system for noise and vibration. EMB120's max cruising speed is 555km/h. Standard main cabin seating is for 30 passengers.

Fokker's largest aircraft, the Fokker 100 is a 100 seat twin engine jet airliner. Fokker announced it was developing the Fokker 100 simultaneously with the Fokker 50 turboprop in November 1983. 283 planes had been built when production ceased in early 1997. Max cruising speed is 845km/h. Range with 107 passengers 2505 km. Flightcrew of two. Max single class high density seating for 122 passengers; standard single class seating for 107 passengers.

Fokker 50 is a two engine turboprop driven aircraft, which can carry up to 56 passengers. Its crew consists of two pilots and two cabin attendants. The aircraft has been designed and manufactured by Fokker Aircraft B.V. the Netherlands – a company with 35 years experience in regional aircraft manufacturing. Today there are more than 200 aircraft of this type flying in different parts of the world. Along with excellent en-route and runaway performance, Fokker 50 has low exterior noise and low emission levels, which make it a welcome neighbour, particulary in populated areas.

McDonnell Douglas MD-82

The MD-80 series is a stretched and improved development of the McDonnell Douglas DC-9. Initial sales were slow until American Airlines placed an initial order for 67 MD-82s in early 1984 (American now operates a fleet of 260 MD-80s). Following the 1997 merger of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas, Boeing announced its decision to drop the MD-80 and MD-90 once current orders were fulfilled. Max speed 925km/h. Seating capacity 165 passengers.

Saab 2000

Launched in December 1998, the Saab 2000 was designed as a stretched, high-speed derivative of the successful Saab 340. Offering jet-like performance, the Saab 200 is capable of high-performance flight while maintaining the economics of turboprop operations. The Saab 2000, with a cruise speed of over 665km/h, is one of the fastest turboprop airliners developed. Flightcrew of two. Normal passenger accommodation for 50.

Tupolev's Tu-154 tri-jet remains the standard medium range airliner on domestic flights in Russia and other states of the former Soviet Union and to a lesser extent in eastern Europe and Iran. The Tu-154 first flew on October 4 1968. Current production is of the Tu-154M, which first flew in 1982. The major change introduced on the M was the far more economical, quieter and reliable. The number of passengers is 148-174, flight range 6000 km and cruising speed 900 km/h.
